Fall/Winter 2015/2016

Tuesday, June 23, 2015
The call from Cacharel for Fall/Winter 2015/2016 is a simple one, one that we’re all too familiar with. Simple forms were infused with prints and made proper with fluid fabrics. At the same time, graphic imagery was stripped away, leaving a feminine and relaxed silhouette in its place.

A modern lens of youthful exuberance reigned supreme here, where prints and solids sat alongside a light-hearted colour palette. No matter the season, the mood with Cacharel is always a cheerful one.

The prints used were commendable. An artist’s canvas was the inspiration. At the beginning, random art stokes of abstract form decorated the canvas. These blotches were then blown up and emblazoned like a masterpiece on a streamlined dress. The artwork was exquisite and the print, one-of-a-kind.

As the artist progressed, zen turned to zeal and the canvas was ripped apart with fervour. The tool of destruction: the reverse end of the paintbrush. When the artist was done, so was the print.

Prints aside, the Cacharel solids on display were equally apt. Navy solids were paired immaculately with cool colour bases while white served as a fitting canvas to the parade of art-inspired images.

The Cacharel girl was in her element. Her wardrobe was carefree, light-hearted, and full of contemporary grace. Minimalist shapes were easily elevated by prints and textures that were perfect complements to easy-to-match separates. They were just that easy to slip on.

Now that’s the real charm of Cacharel.

New Geometry
Taking shape with geometric lines

Thursday, June 18, 2015
A New Geometry is taking shape this season. From Herve Leger's panel-blocked flare skirt and Aquilano.Rimondi's graphic printed shift dress to Les Petits Joueurs' bold clutch and Zagliani's dynamic crossbody clutch, learn how to make these geometric items work for you!
A new geometry is taking shape, one that is not bound by trends but rather is influenced by the female silhouette – a silhouette that embraces a woman’s curves. It is an unspoken desire for all women. Whether in tailored options like a crisp white shirt and a pair of skinny jeans or a streamlined sheath dress, we all want clothes that flatter our bodies. It is a given.

This cleverly colour-blocked Herve Leger skirt accomplishes just that. The eye is instantly drawn to the angular shapes of the nude panels against the negative space of the black, providing much needed shape to your lower body.

Sometimes it isn’t just about the clothes. A dynamic block like this Zagliani Vanity Cube clutch could do wonders to deceive the eye. It’s a perspective. Small bags help to give the illusion of longer torso, especially when carried with a thin chain shoulder strap. If you’re a petite woman, this crossbody clutch would be the perfect size for you. Plus, this patchwork combination of gold, silver, and bronze would easily match your favourite white blouse and jeans combo or an all-black outfit.

In a daring mash-up, prints and graphic lines merge to form a sophisticated linear grace. Note the symmetrical lines of this shift dress forming the axis of the dress silhouette? The narrow A-line is at work; perfect for when you want some breathing space between fabric and skin. For the best effect, match a thin black or white belt to cinch in your waist to further define this silhouette. Alternatively, wear it as it is with a chic pair of heels and a solid-coloured bag.

Geometry in fashion doesn’t have to be complicated; you just got to find a way to make it work for you. A shape is either angular or not. If visual colour blocks aren’t your cup of tea, tone down a notch and wear them as accessories. If metallics aren’t your taste, sport a rose gold bracelet or necklace. If you’re afraid of bold colours, opt for coloured gemstones to complement your skin tone. Subtlety is key here and with such a plethora of fashion options available to us, we might as well strive to embrace it all.
